Vitamin C

Vitamin C, or Ascorbic Acid, is an antioxidant vitamin. This vitamin helps the body build strong bones, muscles, teeth and cartilage. It also helps the body absorb iron. Vitamin C is found in a number of fruits and vegetables including orange juice, guava, broccoli, and strawberries. The lack of vitamin C used to cause scurvy during long boat rides before there were ways to preserve food.

Natural food-Fruit Vitamin C Content

There is no doubt that vitamin C is good for our bodies. However, vitamin C is a water soluble vitamin. This means that when we ingest vitamin C, a lot of it comes back out in our urine rather than other vitamins that are stored in our fat. This means that we need to maintain a steady supply of vitamin C to keep it replenished. This is not the case with fat soluble vitamins that are stored for longer periods of time and do not need to be replenished every day.

How Vitamin C Works

The best way to keep your body stocked up with vitamin c is to eat a healthy well balanced diet with a lot of fruits and vegetables. You see, vitamin supplements have an even higher chance of being flushed out of our bodies. That is because our body is used to breaking down foods and taking the minerals it needs rather than having it contained in a pill form. The rule with fruits and veggies is to try and eat a variety of colors.

However, those of us who do not eat healthy diets may benefit from at least having the pill form of vitamin C. These vitamins should be taken according to instructions and should be purchased from a reputable manufacturer. Be sure to read the label before you purchase any vitamin and keep them away from pets and children.
