With prescription drugs now advertising on television commercials, it can be hard to choose which allergy medication is right for you. One of the popular choices is Cetrizine. However, you probably know this medication by its popular name, Zyrtec.
Zyrtec is used to treat histamine a natural substance that is the culprit behind allergy symptoms. In effect, Zyrtec can be used to treat the itchy, watery eyes and runny noses associated with allergies. In fact, Zyrtec does not only treat seasonal allergies. Zyrtec treats allergies all year long fighting a variety of agents that can cause allergic reactions.
As with most allergy medications, Zyrtec can make you drowsy. Zyrtec can also cause dry mouth. In children, side effects from Zyrtec may include stomach pain and vomiting. If your symptoms persist, or make you uncomfortable contact your doctor. However, the side effects are similar to that of other antihistamine allergy medications.
If you are taking other medications you should disclose each and every one to your doctor before using Zyrtec. The use of other antihistamines and medications that induce drowsiness should be avoided while you use Zyrtec.
As with any medications, Zyrtec should be kept out of the reach of children and pets. Signs of overdose in children may include restless ness and irritability and should be reported to a doctor immediately. On the other hand, overdose in adults may evident by severe drowsiness. If you suspect you have overdosed on Zyrtec, contact your doctor.
If you are pregnant or nursing contact your doctor before you take Zyrtec. By now you may be catching on to the theme. If something doesn’t feel right contact your doctor. Other wise Zyrtec may be able to ease allergy symptoms while reducing the side effects that over the counter allergy medications can leave you with.
